Tradition and Excellence

Like many of the best Anglo-Saxon clubs, the Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche is solidly in the spirit of the tradition of golf and is close to it's members.

Since its creation, the St Nom Club has always had the will to promote the spirit of the club by bringing together sporting life, family atmosphere and complementary activities. Over the years the club has continued to improve and remodel the golf courses to keep up with the latest demands.

A Grand Club

The dream of Daniel Feau was more than simply creating a golf course but to create a club for and about the sport of golf.
With the efforts of the families like the Morgue d'Algue, Lacoste, and Freyssineau, St Nom la Breteche quickly became one of the largest clubs in France.

Because of a strong program of learning based on competition and emulation, there were many generations of the best golfers of France who will carry the colors of blue, white and red of the club. Catherine Lacoste, Cecelia Mourgue d'Algue, Gaetan Mourgue d'Algue, Marc Pendaries, and more recently Charles Henri Quelin, Philippe Lima, Jean-Jacques Wolff, Victor Dubuisson, Marine Monnet, Casandra Kirkland, Victor Riu, Adrien Pendaries et Robin SCIOT-SIEGRIST.

In team competition, St Nom first won the Trophee Gounouilhou in 1963 and le Golfers in 1968. Of these two competitions, the most prestigious in France, St Nom has raised the first place trophy 31 times. It is this spirit of competition that will give rise to the wish to host important professional tournaments.

In 1963, in it's tenth year, the Canada Cup was the first of many these important tournaments, followed by the French Open in 1965, 1069, and 1984.

Lancôme Trophy

With it's 34 exceptional editions, the Lancôme Trophy was and will always be the most notable. Starting in 1970 and during the next 34 years, the Golf de St-Nom-la-Bretèche was the host of the Lancôme Trophy. This fabulous test of golf of the PGA European Tour strongly contributed to the reputation of our club bringing together in a French Tournament the world elite of the Men's tours.

Vivendi Seve Trophy

The Vivendi Trophy plays every two years. It opposes two teams: Great Britain and Ireland against the rest of Europe. It is named in hommage to Severiano Ballesteros, the winningest golfer of all time from Continental Europe and the leader of the success of the European Ryder Cup team. In May 2009, Vivendi announced a partenership, for the tournament in 2009, and 2011, with the Seve Trophy. Le tournament has a new name, The Vivendi Trophy with Severiano Ballesteros. St-Nom-la-Bretèche is chosen to host this prestigious match. An accident? Not really, the choice came from Severiano Ballesteros who greatly appreciated the composite course where he holds the record of the number of victories of the Lancôme Trophy.

These different tournaments have brought together the best players in the history of golf : Jack NICKLAUS, Arnold PALMER, Gary PLAYER, Johnny MILLER, Severiano BALLESTEROS, Bernard LANGER, Marc O’MEARA, Greg NORMAN, Colin MONGOMERY, Miguel Angel JIMENEZ, Fred COUPLES, David DUVAL, Sam TORRANCE, Ian WOOSNAM, Nick FALDO, José Maria OLAZABAL, Sergio GARCIA, Retif GOOSEN, Jean VAN DE VELDE et plus récemment Rory MCILROY.

Club House

The Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Breteche was conceived as a club for families. The original structures have been improved over time while conserving the style and charme of the original. As with the clubhouse, composed originally of a large dining room and a large terrace, it has seen it's capacity grow with the creation of a bar and a terrace at the finish of the ninth, and a restaurant with a panoramic view with a warm and friendly style. An elegant lounge area with a magnificent chimney for conversation and reading, and two rooms for bridge are also part of the amenities.
